What is The 88 Dollar Tax Clinic?
Vincent Way, an enrolled agent and certified tax return preparer in private practice, used to run a free tax clinic every year at the end of tax season in conjunction with the small Presbyterian church in L.A. where he was a member and treasurer. He provided tax prep, audit representation, and consultation, free of charge, to anyone in need who came in the door.q
After retiring in 2017, Way moved to the Mojave Desert and continued to provide tax services free of charge or at nominal fees to anyone who sought his help. He formalized this enterprise in 2023 by organizing The 88 Dollar Tax Clinic. The “$88” in the name is the basic starting price for any service offered (intended to cover overhead expenses)–the idea is not too complicated. Of course, individuals in need can get help below that amount too. I’m not in this effort for the money and the intent is to eventually shift over into a non-profit, charitable format.
This website is the starting point for the “tax-curious”. Feel free to ask any tax question you want. I will respond with a general opinion and backup documentation for any position taken. Most of the time, getting an answer with clear steps on how to proceed is all anybody needs to resolve their tax issues.
